I can’t find a Lane dealer close to me. What do I do now?

Lane Furniture is available through thousands of dealers through the United States. If a dealer is not in a reasonable driving distance, you can contact your local retailer and ask them to become a Lane Dealer. Lane Furniture is only available through authorized dealers and cannot be purchased any other way.

Why should I make my purchase from a local retailer as opposed to a dealer outside my area?

Your local dealer may offer delivery options and be available to help you with service after the sale. We have some very large e-commerce dealers that offer this same type of service.

Do international dealers sell the same products that are sold in the United States?

International dealers have the option of selling some of the same products that we offer domestically. In addition, there are covers and styles developed specifically for their markets.

WARRANTY INFORMATION

What is the warranty on my Lane Furniture?

The cushions for my furniture have flattened. Is this covered under the warranty?

Foam seat cores and cushions will over time lose some of their firmness, much as any foam or pillow type product would under normal circumstances.

You will notice some compression loss and this is normal.

However, springs and foam seat cores are warranted to be free of defects in materials and workmanship for THREE years from the date of sale.

Lane will honor reasonable and customary labor charges for a period of one year from the original date of sale for the purpose of repair or replacing warranty parts.

Warranty service should be performed by an authorized Lane dealer or Lane certified service agent.

PRODUCT INFORMATION

How old is my cedar chest?

Usually Lane cedar chests have serial numbers that are stamped or applied to the bottom of the chests.

You can read the serial number BACKWARDS to determine the production date.

For example: serial number 753150 would have been produced on 05/13/57.

Some chests may also have an extra digit which denotes the plant location.

For example: serial number 2557121 would have been produced on 12/17/55 in plant #2.

 If your model does not have a serial number we will be unable to provide you with a production date.

Is the furniture on the website available in other fabrics and leathers or in other colors?

Yes. Almost every item produced by Lane Furniture may be special ordered in a large assortment of covers and colors. Exceptions may be those products such as advertised specials or other limited-production items. Contact your local authorized Lane dealer for more information on their individual special order policies.

What furniture do you recommend for a large individual? Are any of your products tested on larger individuals? What is a ComfortKing®?

We manufacture a line of recliners called the ComfortKing®. This line is designed for the larger person, height and weight proportional.

Can I order additional pillows for my sofa?

Yes, you’ll need to contact our Customer Service by clicking here and completing the form for this purchase. You’ll need to supply the serial number and your mailing address.

 Does Lane sell slipcovers?

Lane does not manufacture or provide sources for slipcovers for our furniture. We suggest you contact your local department store or seamstress.

The style that I purchased does not come with arm caps or headrest covers, can I purchase them? 

Arm caps are not standard on motion furniture, leather/vinyl upholstery, recliners or stationary furniture.  Arm caps are available for purchase through your local authorized Lane Retailer.  When ordering arm covers, please include your furniture's seven-digit serial number so that we may provide the correct cover/color for you furniture. Headrest covers are not supplied on any style.

What types of springs are used in your upholstered furniture?

We use a sinuous no-sag type spring in our seats and back frames. They are attached to each other with border wire and clips. On furniture that has C3 Pocket Coil Seating, individually pocketed, barrel-shaped coils are designed to maximize durability, while foam and fiber wraps provide extra-soft comfort.  These coils are made from 100% recycled steel and are encased in soy-based foam to make them more eco-friendly.

How do I know if a style I like is available in a loveseat or sectional?

When visiting a dealer, they will have information either through the catalog or on the furniture of what is available and if the group is offered as a sofa/loveseat or sectional style.

Can I order my Lane furniture in a different finish or cover than what I have seen?

Yes. Almost every item produced by our facilities may be special ordered in a large assortment of covers and colors. Exceptions may be those products such as advertised specials, or other limited-production items. Contact your local authorized Lane dealer for more information on their individual special order policies.

Can I supply my own fabric when ordering upholstered Lane furniture?

No, Lane is not able to manufacture furniture using the customer’s own fabric.

How do I get my furniture to sit level on an uneven floor?

Our upholstery is designed to sit even and properly aligned if placed on an even floor.

Your local hardware store may carry rubber levelers to place under upholstery legs to help adjust the height somewhat if placed on an uneven surface.

However, placing more than a half inch of spacer will cause damage to the mechanical workings of the unit and should be avoided.

I found a fabric I really like, but the salesperson told me it could be upholstered on a sofa but not on a recliner. Why?

Some fabric does not work well with the design or size of a recliner. For example, a stripe would not be offered on a contemporary recliner, but would be offered on a traditional sofa. The production patterns established for each piece do not always work for every cover in the line.

When ordering a recliner, can I request to have the handle located on the left side (RSF) instead of on the right?

Certain styles do offer this option.

However, your dealer will need to work with a Lane sales representative to place this special order for you. Not all styles will be able to be modified so check with your retailer first.

Can I get the Chippendale legs (or other type) on a recliner?

Although legs seem like they would be simple to exchange between styles, we do not offer that option. The legs on a Lane Recliner are part of the frame. When we develop the style, we study the market for what we feel are the best styling options for this piece. Once it has left the design phase, we do not substitute.

How can I order repair parts, pillows or cut fabric?

Certain upholstery and replacement parts are available through our Customer Service Department or through your local Lane retailer.

You will need to supply the product’s serial number for the dealer or factory to research the piece of furniture to determine if the parts are still available.

Then the dealer or factory will be able to provide the part’s cost and shipping details.

Does Lane offer re-upholstery service, or can you refer me to a reputable re-upholstery company?

Lane does not offer re-upholstery services nor provide recommendations of local providers.

CLEANING AND CARE INSTRUCTIONS

What are proper ways to care for my wood furniture?

In order to maintain the beauty of your furniture, proper attention and care must be given to it. Even furniture that is not used will become soiled if not cleaned and polished on a regular basis. Even the air in what is assumed to be very clean households carry dust, pollen and other contaminants that will, over time, cause furniture finishes to lose their value by the accumulation of soil and by 'drying out' the lacquer topcoats. To prevent this from happening, it is necessary to clean and polish or wax your furniture on a regular basis.

 

Selection of Polish and Waxes

The base product used in most commercially available furniture polishes are either wax-based or oil-based. Oil-based polishes help to renew the luster or shine on furniture finishes and also perform well in removing fingerprints, dust, and grease. Oil-based polishes also help to protect the finish by “moisturizing” it as the emollients slightly soak into the lacquer and wood pores in a similar effect as using moisturizing lotion on our skin. Since oil-based polishes normally raise the sheen level of finishes, they are recommended and perform best on satin and glossy finishes. Wax-based polishes work by cleaning furniture and covering it with a thin layer of protective and moisture-resistant coating. Like oil-based polishes, it does well at removing fingerprints, dust, and some stains from furniture finishes. Wax-based polishes also protect furniture by moisturizing the finish and by helping to retain the moisture because of the protective coating it provides. Paste wax is a concentrated form of wax-based furniture polish. It can help in hiding many small surface scratches and dries to a hard shine. Wax-based polishes perform well on flat and satin-sheen finishes. It may also be used on more glossy finishes, but must be buffed to increase the sheen level of the wax, which is ordinarily satiny in appearance.

 

Proper Use of Waxes and Polishes

For best results, waxes and polishes should not be sprayed directly from the can or bottle onto the furniture finish. Instead, spray a soft cotton cloth with the polish and apply evenly with a smooth, flat wiping motion over the furniture finish. Allow the polish to dry for a moment and, with a second cotton cloth, dry the furniture with a similar motion as above. Do not replace lamps or other objects immediately back onto the furniture so that the polish will have ample time to dry completely. This will help reduce “shadows” underneath the objects. Decide on a type of polish or wax to use on your furniture and stick with it. Interchanging wax- and oil-based polishes will cause the furniture finish to become cloudy and streaked in appearance because the oil-based polishes will partially “melt” the wax in wax-based polishes but will not completely remove it.

 

COVER (LEATHER OR FABRICS) INFORMATION

How do I know what type of leather is used on my furniture? What are the grades of leather? Finishes of leather?

Leather is one of today's most popular upholstery fabrics. Leather is soft, supple, and extremely durable. It may actually outlast other upholstery many times over. Leather breathes and keeps cool in summer and warm during winter months. Leather upholstery is made from hides that are subjected to a series of chemical processes called tanning. This process softens, beautifies, and protects these hides. Before buying leather upholstery, it is important to understand the features and benefits of different grades of leather.

If you are not sure of the type or finish of your leather, look beneath the seat cushion on all items except recliners to find a label with “Leather Classification and Leather Care Tips.” For recliners, look beneath the ottoman for the information.

There are primarily two grades or cuts of leather:

Top-Grain Leather

Top-grain leather is the top layer of the hide. The top portion of the hide is approximately 3/64-inch thick and is the most premium grade of leather. Top-grain leather may be processed into full-grain leather, which is not buffed or sanded and maintains all of the natural markings that were on the hide, or corrected-grain leather, which is buffed and sanded to correct surface markings. The surface of corrected-grain leather is smoother and more uniform.

 

Split Leather

Split leather comes from the lower layer of the hide. It is then processed into suede, split, or coated split leather. Coated split leather is stiffer and less durable than top grain and is often used to cover the portions of a sofa or chair that will not be seen and does not need to be as flexible as the top.

 

 There are four  finishes or treatments of leather:

Full Aniline Dyed Leather

Most tanned leather is colored with a penetrating aniline dye that is absorbed by the pores and permeates the surface of the hide, giving it color without covering over natural markings. Pure aniline dyed leather has a clear, protective aniline coating, but it does not have an applied pigmented surface coating or finish. This is the best quality and most expensive leather. It is used for hides with few natural markings and no need for correction. Only a small portion of hides are good enough for this treatment, which explains the higher prices, but these are the leathers that tend to develop a rich patina with age.

Semi-Aniline Dyed Leather

Semi-aniline leather is a leather hide with only a small amount of surface coating. It has the same amount of aniline dye as the pure aniline dyed leather. However, it is not recommended for excessive use, because the pigment could wear off.

Nubuck Leather

Nubuck leather, like top-grain leather, comes from the top portion of the hide and has a slight nap. It looks like suede yet is more durable. Nubuck leather is frequently treated with chemicals to resist stains and water.

Pigment-Dyed Leather

Pigment dyed refers to leather whose surface has been coated with finishing materials containing pigments or other opaque materials. The process is much like a painting process, and the dye stays close to the surface. With years of use, pigment-dyed leathers may require you to touch up scratches that have penetrated deep enough into the leather to reach the natural hide, which would be lighter in color.

Which leather furniture would be best for me if I have children?

Lane Furniture only supplies the highest quality leathers. Each of our leathers is graded for specific residential applications. Applications that may include heavy use or cleaning will require leathers that are durable and have a protective layer against stains. Your retailer can assist you in choosing the right leather for your application.

 What is Lane Furniture’s position on the use of “after-sale fabric treatments” commonly known as “Retailer Applied Fabric Treatment”(RAFT) ?

Any application of chemical treatments voids the Lane factory warranty. Lane’s consumer warranty is printed on the HANG TAG attached to each piece of furniture and clearly states that fabric treatments void the fabric warranty: “Where the fabric or leather has had some form of chemical applied, the Fabric/Leather Warranty will not apply.”

This warranty position is due to several reasons.

1.   The Joint Industry Fabric Standards Committee has determined that “protective” cover coatings (also known as RAFT) applied by entities other than the mill or tannery may affect fabric integrity and contribute to premature seam failure, discoloration, color bleeding, pile release, and latex deterioration.

2.   Cover mills and tanneries that supply covers to Lane do not warrant covers that have been treated with any type of coating by other parties. This has been the industry standard and practice of Lane Furniture, cover suppliers, and other furniture manufacturers since at least 1986.

3.   Lane cannot be held accountable for any potential damage caused by application of chemical treatments. However, there may be warranties that supersede the Lane warranty. These warranties, if applicable, may by supplied by the manufacturer of the chemical or by the party applying the chemical.

Please refer to your dealer as to the warranty of any such treatment or application.

If I order an armless or one arm style from Lane, are the armless sides covered in my upholstery of choice?

The sides of our armless and one armed units are covered in a black material we call duon.  All of our armless and one armed units are made like this.

Why don't you show swatch images of the covers that your upholstery furniture comes in?

We are unable to provide swatch images online primarily because of the large number of covers that each of our styles can be upholstered in.

Your local Lane retailer is your best source of cover availability and swatch samples for the styles you are interested in. Sometimes seeing a picture of a cover swatch cannot convey the true look of the cover such as sizing or exact color nor can it provide you with the opportunity to feel the cover. A cover that may be appealing to you in a picture may not be as appealing in your hands. We would not want you to place an order with your local retailer based on an image and upon delivery find it unsatisfactory.

DAMAGED GOODS

The furniture I ordered arrived with damage. What should I do next?

If you purchased your furniture through a factory-authorized Lane retailer, you need to contact that Lane dealer immediately for assistance and instructions.

Do not contact the factory direct, as the factory will direct you back to your retailer.

How do I repair damage to my leather sofa by my pet?

You can contact your local Lane retailer for assistance on ordering replacement parts if required.

 After certain leathers are torn or damaged however, it may be not be practical to try to repair or replace the affected part.

You may also want to contact a local furniture repair service who might be able to help with repairs and service.

DISCONTINUED ITEMS

May I special order a model or style of furniture that is no longer in production?

Once a style has been discontinued, we can no longer manufacture the item. If the style was recently discontinued, it’s possible that your local Lane dealer might still have the item on his showroom floor. Use our dealer locator to locate dealers in your area. Once you have the style and cover numbers, call the dealers to see if they have one in stock.

NOTE: The factory does not know what specific models our independent retailers have in their inventories.

 If my style or collection is discontinued, how long does Lane keep inventory on hand?

Lane does not keep a large inventory of discontinued product on hand. We notify our retailers on a regular basis of our inventory status and keep them updated through our network of dedicated representatives. Your retailer can inquire about  any specific SKU with their local Lane sales representative.

I have seen Leather Office Chairs with the Lane name on them. Do you manufacture these and where can I purchase these chairs?

The Leather Office Chairs are produced by a company called True Seating. We have a license agreement with them to produce the chair with our Lane Logo. Your local Lane dealer should have fabric swatches available for the use by consumers. However, if for some reason the dealer doesn’t have the sample you need, Lane will be happy to provide a small swatch depending on availability.

The dealer or service agent is charging me with Labor. Isn’t this covered under my warranty?

The labor warranty for servicing most of our upholstery products is for a period of ONE year from original date of purchase. 

However, there are specific SKUS in our line where there is an exception to this labor warranty, shorter depending on SKU. 

The labor warranty applies to the repair and service of warranty issues only.

For most of our products, the LABOR portion of the warranty is valid for a period of ONE year from original date of purchase. A valid "proof of purchase" must be supplied to verify warranty status.

Do I still get a factory warranty if I purchase furniture on clearance or “as is” from a dealer?

Lane's consumer warranty is valid only to the original purchaser from an authorized Lane retailer.

Products sold by a retailer specifically “as is” are considered to be sold as-is and do not carry a warranty from Lane. 

 If the "as-is" wording or something similar is written on your receipt, the no-warranty situation applies.

Is a "Proof of Purchase" required to order parts or receive warranty service?

Yes. A copy of your retail sales receipt showing the date of purchase is required to verify warranty status.

Are all Lane products shown on the website?

Our website is designed to show most of the products we offer. We are constantly adding and removing images on the site, but we do not show all products at one time. Dealers will have a complete catalog of our products at their stores for additional offerings.

Why don't you display all of your covers on the website?

Computer technology at this time does not offer consistent color representation. What is shown on our systems here can look entirely different on a home computer. Even different dye lots from the fabric mills can generate different shades of a cover that when held next to the computer screen, look entirely different. Until the technology is available that shows covers in a truer form, we will not display them on our site.
