If your recliner is similar to either type 4 or type 5 above, please read the following instructions CAREFULLY BEFORE you start to determine whether or not your recliner is included in the retrofit.

    CAUTION
  • Performing these instructions involves tipping and resting the recliner on its side.
KEEP HANDS CLEAR OF BLACK METAL PARTS.
  • Children should not be allowed near the recliner while carrying out these instructions.
  • At least two physically capable persons should work together to move and/or lift the recliner.
  • To avoid injuries follow the instructions given below.

  • Step 1: Clear the area around the recliner so that it can be rested on its right side (if you were sitting in the chair). Make sure that there are no children close to or sitting in the recliner throughout the process.

Step 2: Stand behind the recliner and pull the backrest until the recliner is fully reclined and the footrest is fully extended.

Step 3: Two physically capable persons should perform this step. Rest the chair on its right side. One person should stand to the left side of the recliner facing the left armrest. The second person should stand behind the recliner to help in controlling the chair as it is tipped onto its right side. The first person should slowly lift and hold the left armrest while at the same time the second person should control the recliner movement until they bring the recliner to rest on its right side.

Step 4: Locate the Consumer Reference tag (shown below). The tag is approximately 3-1/2 by 2 inch with black print on a white background. It should be located underneath the recliner on either the right or left side between the front and back legs. If not in either of these locations, then it may be located underneath the middle section of the footrest. If you are unable to find the tag anywhere on the chair, go to Step 8 and skip Steps 5 through 7.

Step 5: Write down the recliner style number, shipping date, and serial number in the spaces provided below:
SERIAL NUMBER: ______________________ (7 digit number, example 1000101)
STYLE NUMBER: ______________________ (5 digit number, example 02727)
    SHIPPING DATE: _______________________ (MM-DD-YY, example 12-03-99)

Your recliner is included in the retrofit ONLY if BOTH the 5 digit STYLE NUMBER begins with 026## or 027## AND the SHIPPING DATE is prior to May 2002.

Step 6: Bring the recliner to the upright position. Two physically capable persons should perform this step. One person should stand behind the backrest and the second person should stand to the right side facing the armrests. The first person should slowly lift the recliner from the top corner of the backrest while the second person should help slowly lift the recliner by its upper armrest until they bring the recliner to rest on its four legs. One person should stand in front of the extended footrest and gently push on the top center of the middle footrest in order to close the footrest. ALWAYS LEAVE RECLINING FURNITURE IN AN UPRIGHT AND CLOSED POSITION.

Step 7: If you determine that your chair is part of the retrofit, call 1-800-467-9555 or click here for the Retrofit Kit. You will need to provide the serial number, style number and shipping date.

Step 8: This Step is only required from those who were not able to locate the Consumer Reference Tag. Find the recliner Serial Number, a 7-digit number located on the law label (“Under penalty of law” tag) under the middle section of the footrest or on the Fabric Content tag inside the warranty information tag originally attached to the arm of the recliner. Write down the serial number and call 1-800-467-9555 or click here for the Retrofit Kit.
